The Role Of Debt Collection Agencies In The Credit Industry
Debt collection agencies are service providers who collect outstanding payments which are owed to a particular loan distribution company or a creditor. They take a particular percentage of their collection amount as their fee the service offered. Since they are called upon to do the dirty work of other people, they do charge heavily. The reason why they are employed is that the creditor hopes to get back at least part of the money that he has given someone, if not the whole amount.
The main reason behind this approach is that debt collection agencies have a team of experts who are well versed with collection methodology and are better at collecting the money than the original creditors. If these companies get directly involved in collecting dues, they will lose focus on their core business. Hence it has now become quite common for lending agencies to outsource the collection activity to business that specialize in this field.
In few states a registered license is required to set up debt collection agencies. These agencies should follow some strict rules and regulations while collecting the dues. Otherwise it will land them in trouble that might even be as serious as facing legal suits. These collection agencies usually collect the data of the customer and the amount they owe to the company, keep track of the due dates and then start their collection process by making the first call to the customer as a reminder.
The debt collection agencies do a follow-up by calling the customer, sending emails or faxes stating the payment dues. If there is no proper response on the other side they also go personally to meet the customer and talk to him regarding the recovery of the loan. Discussions with the customer, regarding any issues he may have about the loan repayment are carried out on behalf of the creditor. The staff in the debt collection agencies has to be properly trained while they are in the field for the purpose of debt collection. Any person from the debt collection agencies should not call the debtor at odd hours like early morning or late night. They should not annoy a customer and interfere with his privacy by repeatedly calling him. The debt collection agent should not use obscene or abusive language to collect the debt from the debtor. He should not threaten the customer in any way while asking for settlement of dues. He can meet any relative or friend of the debtor only to find out whether the person is in or not. Details regarding the debt should not be discussed with any other person other than the debtor. The collection agents should not meet the debtor who owes an amount to the creditor; unless a prior permission is got from the debtor. Debt collection agencies are necessary services that are required by companies and creditors who lend huge amounts and need the money to be collected in time.
